ARTIST STATEMENT
I see the world in ways most people don’t. I notice little things, the cracks, the stuff people try to hide. That’s where my work comes from. I’m drawn to what’s real, not what people expect. I look at faces and I try to see what’s behind them. Sometimes it’s ugly, sometimes it’s beautiful, sometimes it’s both. It’s not always easy. Understanding others means I have to look at myself too. Judgment can feel heavy, but sometimes it’s the only way to really see.
I use surrealism because it helps me show how I see things. The multi-iris eyes in my art are how I feel when I look at the world. Not one way, but many ways at once. They see different layers, different secrets. They don’t just watch, they ask questions. They poke, they stare, they won’t settle for the surface.
Being LGBT has made me feel judged from the start. Just existing feels like a statement. I’ve learned to live with that, to let it shape me instead of break me. That tension shows up in my art. I want people to see me as I am, but I know they will always bring their own assumptions.
When I make things, I’m trying to pull the world apart a little. I want to show the weird, uncomfortable, hidden parts. I want people to feel alienated, self-aware, confused, maybe a little seen. The worlds I create bend reality so you notice things you wouldn’t normally.
My work is about looking closer, thinking deeper, and remembering that no one is just one thing. We are all messy, complicated, more than we look on the surface.
