ARTIST STATEMENT
Arlo Jake Lagmay, born in 1991, is a Basel-based Filipino visual artist. His work investigates the nature of perception and idea and how their polarization questions the realm of reality.
He employs the juxtaposition of flat surfaces and imaginary figures with real architectural elements, fusing Dadaism and Surrealism transporting viewers into a floating and dreamlike scene and requiring them to decide where from there the reason goes. This vantage point is the wormhole where the limits of time and distance are suspended or shattered, showing the forms of distorted bodies, surreality of nature, and provocative flesh all witnessed by the viewers.
